Many of my artworks celebrate the surprising botanical diversity of the American Southwest, where life finds extraordinary ways to flourish in a stark landscape. Beyond the iconic cactus, the Southwest harbors unexpected botanical gems in secret watery refuges -
Cienegas—rare desert wetlands fed by underground springs & seeps—supporting lush grasses and wildflowers that seem impossible against the surrounding desert. These precious oases are among the Southwest's most endangered ecosystems. Many cienegas were originally lost to cattle grazing.
Remote rocky canyons shelter microclimates where moisture collects, allowing ferns, columbines, monkey flowers, and other water-loving plants to thrive in hidden grottos. Bigtooth maples trees blaze with autumn color in mountain wallows.

What makes these botanical subjects so charming is the delightful contrast they create—vibrant greens, brilliant wildflower blooms, and rich autumn hues emerging from landscapes often perceived as barren.
