Virginia City was the site of the fabulous Comstock Lode silver and gold bonanzas of the 1850s-70s. It was so big, this city never really turned totally into a ghost town, and the mountain is still mined today! It contributed to great 19th century fortunes (Hearst, Flood, Hayward, among others) and hugely influenced the development of San Francisco and Nevada.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis picture is part of a book my wife Agnès and I are putting together with the working title \"Midcentury Road Trip: Images from a French Family's American Adventure in the 1950s.\" She was a child during this trip. This photograph represents my passion for heritage photography. The original photo by Jean is on a color film slide which I rescued and expertly scanned and restored with painstaking faith to the original. A black border surrounds the image which comes from the original slide frame.
