My splendid spectacle of a wonderful western landscape! This is Schonchin Butte at Lava Beds National Monument in far northeast California USA. This butte is a cinder cone from a volcanic eruption that happened not too long ago in geologic terms, a part of Medicine Lake Volcano, a large shield volcano of explosive proportions.
