Ruby Arizona Fine Art Photography – Border Ghost Twon

Haunting ghost town art photos—raw, poetic scenes from the Arizona-Mexico border's fading past. A compelling small collection by Murray Bolesta.

Ruby's Storied Past

Ruby, Arizona, nestled in the remote Arizona-Mexico borderlands, flourished as a lead and zinc mining town until the 1940s. At its peak, Ruby boasted a school, store, and hundreds of residents. By 1941, the mines were exhausted and Ruby became a ghost—today one of Arizona's best-preserved ghost towns, privately owned and occasionally open to visitors.

A Landscape Under Pressure...

The surrounding Atascosa Mountains and Pena Blanca Lake region—once pristine wilderness—now bear the scars of intensive Border Patrol enforcement: roads cut through sensitive habitat, surveillance infrastructure, and vehicle traffic disrupting wildlife corridors critical to jaguars, ocelots, and other rare species.

Each of my fine art prints is produced with meticulous attention to composition, tonality, and detail, available as museum-quality unframed prints or ready-to-hang canvas wraps!
