Northeastern California occupies the state's least-populated corner, where the Cascade Range, Warner Mountains, and Modoc Plateau meet the Great Basin. This region spans Modoc County and Lassen County, vast territories where towns like Susanville and Cedarville serve as outposts in an ocean of sagebrush and pine. Bordering Nevada and Oregon, this high-desert landscape feels worlds away from California's coastal cities, preserving an agricultural way of life.
A Land Shaped by History
This region was home to the Modoc, Paiute, and Pit River peoples for millennia. Later, cattle ranching and farming shaped the landscape, creating the rustic character that endures today. The region's remoteness has preserved both its natural beauty and its frontier spirit.
