Redwood Coast Fine Art Prints – Colossal Pacific Ocean Meets Forest Giants

Savor the majestic Redwood Coast through this distinguished collection of fine art photography by Murray Bolesta. Capturing these cathedral forests is no small feat—trees exceeding 250 feet demand some real attention to convey their overwhelming scale and filtered light. This place is at the top of my list of favorites!

A Landscape Defined by Giants

Coastal redwoods once extended from the Big Sur Coast of California to parts of southern Oregon. Northwestern California's redwood coast pervades Humboldt and Del Norte Counties, anchored by Redwood National and State Parks, Prairie Creek Redwoods, Jedediah Smith Redwoods, and the legendary Avenue of the Giants. This fog-drenched coastline (redwoods need the fog) preserves the tiny remnants of one of Earth's most magnificent ecosystems.

A Logging Holocaust

What took millions of years to create was nearly destroyed in roughly 75 years after 1850. By the mid-20th century, industrial logging had eliminated over 95% of California's ancient old-growth redwoods—a staggering ecological catastrophe. The remnants surviving today exist only through the heroic efforts of conservation patriots, including the Save-the-Redwoods League, founded in 1918, who fought to preserve these irreplaceable groves.

Indigenous Stewardship

Many tribes, including the Yurok, Karuk, and Wiyot peoples called these forests home for millennia. Today, these folks are actively restoring former homeland landscapes through land reacquisition and traditional ecological practices, reclaiming their ancient relationship with the redwoods.

Each of my artworks is produced with meticulous attention to color, detail, and composition, available as museum-quality unframed prints or ready-to-hang canvas wraps!
